So tonight in the middle of the night I was listening to Love Never Fails by Brandon Heath. It struck a
nerve. It rang so true to what the Lord has been showing me recently.
There's a line in the very first verse that says, "Love after all, matters most". I am finding this to be more and more true.
Jesus, when asked what the greatest commandment was,
replied
"37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments
hang all the Law and the Prophets.”(Matthew 22:36-40).
The GREATEST commandment is to love God. How do we love
God?
"15“If you love Me, keep My commandments." (John 14:15)
Love is our greatest commandment. I believe that whatever we have love for is
where we will put our time, effort, finances, cares. I believe that when that love is for God - everything trickles from there. If we have love for the Lord we are going to desire to allow Him to
work in us and through us. Even if it hurts for a season. Even if it means we must lay down our lives for others. Even if it means facing that trial. Even if it means giving up something that we
are loving more than the Lord.
We do not just inherently, in our sinful nature, desire or even have the ability
to love God. We love the world. We love our money, our belongings, our fantasy football teams, etc. But that's why we have Christ. He brought grace.
In John 1 we are shown this. "16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the
law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ"
We are only able to love God through His grace that was given to us by the blood
of Christ. Meaning, we can only keep His commandments by GRACE.
We (in our flesh) can do nothing. We can not love Him. We can not keep His
commandments. We can not truly love our neighbors. But because God sent Jesus to bring grace and truth, we have the ability THROUGH CHRIST, through our new man to do these
things.
So my prayer in my life right now is for the Lord to increase my love for Him.
To help me set aside the things I am giving my love to that are not of Him. To show me how I can better love Him. To keep my eyes focused on Him, the promise of grace upon grace, and the hope and
faith of the completed work of the Lord in me.
I pray that the Lord increases your love for Him as well!!
